Can I change wireless connection name?

When I set up our wireless Netgear DGN2000 router last year what I thought was going to be our password is now the name of our connection (hope that makes sense, when we go into available wireless connections it is on display), I know everything is secure anyway but I would like to change it to something else, but I am not sure how, is it be possible to do this without disrupting the rest of the settings?
Thanks

Provided you can get into the router's administration interface, you can change whatever you like! The 'network name'=SSID is just an identifier for humans; you can even choose not to broadcast it. You may perhaps have to change the default connection on your laptops/wireless clients the first time after you change the network name on the router.

Preferably don't chose a network name that identifies you or your house, like "FirbyFred at 23 Acacia Gardens (burglars welcome)" - mine is called "Go Away!"

Can you tell what wireless router you are using?

Enter http://192.168.0.1 in the address field of your browser.

The defaults are admin for the user name and password for the password, both in lower case letters.

Select Wireless Settings in the main menu. Change the wireless network name (SSID) and save.

its also best to change wireless settings using an ethernet cable connected from the router to the computer as if you change the wireless settings via a wireless computer, it will throw you off the network until you reconnect.
