Extending house architects and builders?

I have question on extending a house, and need answers to two questions:

How do I find the architects with the qualifications and experience?

How do I find the builders with qualifications and experience?

Please let me know which bodies these people need to be registered with in England?

Thank you

you got builders whith 7 tags on their vans and you got builders with just a company name and number on the van and not registred anywhere except to companies house ;) like me
it doesnt make me any worse that these who stick the fmb, fsb, chas, etc etc federations and acreditations signs on their van
    .
unlike sainsburys, builders dont come as ''try before you buy'' though .

try and ask your friends if they used any and if they got any to recomend

If you can't find one by recomendation then try RIBA, once you have found an architect he should be able to ponit you in the direction of several buliders suitable for the type of works you are proposing.
With regards to builders I agree with Radsteral, membership to most trade associations is by subscription, with little regard being taken as to the quality or skill of the builder.
