Cheapest place for cake tins?

yes, you can buy a cake tin in shops for around £1, but they buckle, loose their non-stick coating, and sometimes depending on what they are made from, either burn you cake or take ages to cook

its way better to invest in something at least mid price range, so id say around £10 a tin, should get you something that would more or less last a lifetime - good cookware isnt something you can go and splash out on in one go. i tend to treat myself every few months to one tin, and that way, ive built up quite a good selection

I couldn't agree more, the same applies to roasting dishes. I stick to vitreous enamel for savoury bakes but be warned that you will not get a good result trying to make a tray cake with this.

My current 99p shop tins have lasted longer than the £6 Sainsburys or Tescos ones I have always got before. The only thing I have pushed the boat out on is a £7.50 giant cake cooling rack from Waitrose/John Lewis as it's non stick and big enough to take a ton of food!

Lidl have good tins when they are on special. I also like silicone tins/dishes, you can get these in p0undland.

I have to say that the everything for a pound shop has better cake and roasting tins than the value range from asda - i bought a few cake tins from the pound shop and they are not bad at all - I bought a value range roasting tin from asda and the coating fell off after one use!

Toomuchdebt, I can understand where you're coming from. You may decide to buy cheap until you establish what you will actually use. Decide on a recipe you want to do, then buy the appropriate cheap tin/s. If you then decide you'll do that recipe again you know that you'll eventually want a better quality one. You can get some decent cake tins for less than £10 from TKMaxx. Look for heavier weight tins that won't buckle under heat. Anything thin and light is not going to help you. I've bought tins from £4 up and never had cause for complaint about them ( but have paid as much as £20 too) I've bought my baking tins over a long period. Don't expect to buy it all at once. One now and again will soon build you a comprehensive set that will suit the uses you want. And remember TKMaxx stock changes almost daily, if they don't have what you want today, next week they may very well have it.;)

I'd rather do cobbler in a casserole dish than a really nasty cheapy tin. You know you want to do cobbler again so why not start with a decent tin for that?:D

No idea what a B&M shop is so I guess we don't have one LOL

um...im not sure the more expensive ones are better...i got some dearer good housekepping tins...they were blue and the dishwasher finished them off....i tend to buy cheap for example wilkinsons and also £ shop for mince pie tins at christmas then chuck out when they look dodgy

ok, im a bit confused now. you say you want cake tins, but then you say you didnt have anything to cook a cobbler in.

tbh i wouldnt be making a cobbler in a cake tin, i would use a casserole dish for that, ie stoneware or pyrex

i own 5 metal cake tins, that basically are the size you need for most recipes. ie a set of 7" sandwich tins (at least 1" deep gives the most versatility), an 8" round deep tin (at least 2" deep), a 7" square tin (again at least 1" deep), a loaf tin, and a 12 hole muffin pan

these 5 tins, give me the size, and shape that most recipes call for, as i can make your bog standard sponge cake, a deep fruit cake, the square tin is good for flapjacks and bars, the loaf tin is great for when you need a cake that can be sliced easily, and the muffin pans are great for individual cakes and making yorkshire puds

then if im wanting to expand my collection a bit more, i would go for a swiss roll tin, and a decent roasting pan. however if cooking is your thing, then you can start collecting fancy tins, like bundt, spring forms, etc.

tbh of late i have found the cookware in the 'Jamie Oliver at Home' range (not the ones available in the shops, its online or through party plan) really good quality for the money (and lots of others must agree as it is all sold out online). i dont usually buy into the 'celebrity endorsed' stuff, but these items i really do rate

other than that, when i am feeling flush, i treat myself to something by Nordic Ware - but these occasions are rare lol - you can find this brand in most fancy department stores, like John Lewis
