Cheapest place for cake tins?

I had to make the fruit cobbler in a casserole dish as I realised all I had were huge tins for roasting chickens LOL.It worked but I think I need some proper tins as well.I had a look in the local charity shops last week but didn't find a single one.

You can get them in the pound shops and Quality save but IMHO they tend to be rubbish. I think TK Maxx have a good selection at a decent price.

i'd make a cobbler in a stoneware or pryex dish....

However poundland and supermarkets all have cheap tins

I've found good quality bakeware in TKMaxx... if you're feeling brave enough

I was in TKMaxx last week too buit didn't think to look for cake tins-I'll try there and Wilkinson's next week

rachbc-it was a stoneware casserole dish I don't know much about baking at all but figured it was all I had that was even remotely suitable.

ok, ill be honest, you are asking for cheapest place to buy cake tins, but ive always found that to be a false economy

yes, you can buy a cake tin in shops for around £1, but they buckle, loose their non-stick coating, and sometimes depending on what they are made from, either burn you cake or take ages to cook

its way better to invest in something at least mid price range, so id say around £10 a tin, should get you something that would more or less last a lifetime - good cookware isnt something you can go and splash out on in one go. i tend to treat myself every few months to one tin, and that way, ive built up quite a good selection

Hmmm trouble is until I actually get some I won't know what I actually need IYSWIM?I don't want to spend £10 on a tin that I will never use but because I'm new to all this I don't know what I will need.Flea perhaps you can give me an idea of what to start with?

Hi Toomuchdept,

Have you a B&M near to you? They often have decent cookware cheap. I know can be a bit hit and miss with their stocks but its worth a try. :cool: Another option have you thought about trying your local freecycle group? Free is even better especially if you're not sure how much use you'll get out of them.

£10 is cheap for a good quality cake tin I have tins that cost £30 plus but I have had them since before I was married they are nearly 30 years old now but they are still going strong

To be honest, if you are not going to use them often, then buying cheap is probably ok. If you get a cheap one, and find you use it a lot and it soon needs replacing, then replace it with a good quality one. If you buy a cheap one and it gets used once before gathering dust, then you obviously don't really need it, and can do without buying the expensive one!
