And what 'metering discrepancy' investigation would not involve examining the meter itself? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

ok so i've just phoned consumer direct.
The guy said it didn't sound right. Even as the DNO they have no right or need to see bills unless they were trying to help and assist with providing a quote for cheaper bills if we switch to them. Since they have explicitly denied this is their reasons and instead given another explanation, he has advised to make a formal complaint to Scottish Power and if i don't hear back or get a satisfactory response then they will take it on for me.0 -
Hi DoraTheExplorer
If you call SP and provide the sales reps name and ID number then we can take the necessary action against that person.
Kind Regards

Colin @ ScottishPowerHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Only one company reads the meters in each area, regardless of who your supplier is, so your usual meter reader could well be from Scottish Power.0

We had the Scottish Power idiots round a couple of days ago. They were saying that they had to give us our "Calorific Value" by law and that they had to go round to do this by order of Ofgem. What a crock of ....... After politly telling them that I knew what the value was and thay I was with another energy company, they would not leave. In the end, I told them in no uncertain terms to get off our property and to never come back. They still tried to tell me that they would post the info through our letterbox. Just wait for that to happen as we are registered with MPS.
While this was going on, a plumber was working in the bathroom above the door and heard the entire conversation. He found the SP rubbish all rather amusing.
SP Company Rep, note for your bosses. It's idiots like this that give your company a bad name. After having been an SP customer for a number of years, this sort of behavior would put me off returning to your company in te future. Remember, you have to treat the customer with respect, not treat them like an idiot!0 -
Hi DVardysShadow and Ignite
Thanks for your comments and query.
DVardysShadow, I would say that a sales rep should not insist on anything that the customer does not wish to provide. The sales rep can ask to see a bill to check what unit rates are being applied by another supplier and to make sure there are no obvious errors. All the customer really wants to hear is the price that can be offered by SP. The sales rep may want to check a bill so that he/she can confirm exactly what savings can be made against the customers current supplier (if any). If a customer states quite clearly that they do not wish to provide any bill then that should be the final word on the matter. If the sales rep starts becoming insistant this is when I would recomment taking all details (name and ID) so that you can report back any poor service.
In relation to the metering discrepancies, if your current supplier had identified any discrepancies then they would contact you (by letter or telephone) to confirm te situation. The sales rep may have experienced customers in the area who were being billed incorrectly, i.e. electricity account on the wrong tariff or an imperial gas meter being billed on metric rates etc. The sales rep should be clear about who he works for and why he is requesting any information.
Ignite, the calorific value is shown on your bill so there is no need for anyone to confirm this figure to you. Again, if you suspect a sales rep is providing or asking inappropriate questions, take the name and ID number and report this. By doing this you will help us take the necessary action to stop this happening to any of your neighbours.
Kind Regards
