wedding ring nightmare, help please!

Hi all, 1st time of posting, so please be gentle with me!
In May of last year, My then fiance and i bought our wedding rings from a well known high street jeweller, for our forthcoming wedding August 29th 2009.
Last month, i noticed that the brushed finish to my ring, had come off completely, not in patches.
We returned it to the store, to be informed that it was quite normal for the pattern to come off in time, depending on what type of work the wearer did.
At the time of order/purchase at no time were we informed of this.
Incidently, i have been off sick from work since june of last year, and am able to undertake light household duties only, for which i always wear rubber gloves .
i requested a refund, but was refused, stating they have to return the ring to head office.
Two weeks on, i hadnt heard anything, so i went into the shop to enquire.
The assistant contacted head office whilst i was there, to be told that it hadnt been looked at yet, and evenso may need to be send to the manufacturer, abroad!
his would mean that i possibly could be withoutmy wedding ring for 2 months, with no guarantee of a new one at the end of it!
I again asked for a refund, which was refused, and was told that they MAY give me a credit note
According to the stores website, all their jewellry comes with a 1 year guarantee.
My question is, am i entitled to a refund, as the ring has only been on my finger not quite six months?
Are there any jewellers out there, than can advise me as to wether 6months is an acceptable time for a brushed pattern to last before wearing off.
Sorry for the long post,
Trogga.

what's the ring made out of (if gold, what carat)?0
-
hi, yes the ring is 9 carat yellow gold, cost £139.00.0

Almost a year since you've bought it and 7+ months of wearing it. TBH it looks like user wear and tear - yes it's only 9ct (so not as soft as 18/24) but it's still a soft metal and if it was only a brushed finish then I'm not surprised it's buffed out in 7 months wear - the guarantee will come back saying it's user damage if anything and as it's over 6 months old it's up to you (under sale of goods act) to prove it was faulty at point of purchase.0
