Do we need jabs to go to Sharm?

Me and Oh are heading to Sharm for 11 nights in May. We went 2 years ago and loved it. Some friends of ours said we need to get some jabs at doctors before going. we didn't last time and were fine.
Anyone ideas if there is something we should get?

There are several recommended. Check your travel insurance policy. Some won't pay out if you contract something that you should have been inoculated against, but didn't get the jabs.

If you've been before you will already know the antidote for baksheeshaemia - plenty of £1 Egyptian notes.

As far as jabs go, i don't think there are any compulsory ones but as luci says there are some that are recommended. You are staying in Sharm so the main concern will be "gyppy" tummy although it's always good to be up-to-date with your typhoid, polio & tetanus jabs generally i.e not just because you are going to Egypt. The Hep A jab is also generally useful and I think you can now get a course of 2 within a certain time which gives protection for life rathetr than just 6 months with the single jab.

We went to Cairo for a couple of days (holiday sharm) so got the recommended jabs. Remember you need to book in advance at your gp surgery.

jabs 6 weeks in advance (if i remember correctly) for them to be effective.

If you going to see pyramids take plenty of english pound coins, i got couple sets of postcards from the kids..cheap as chips!!!

    Have fun.
  • They do recommend you get hepatitus A and typhoid injections for Egypt, just speak to the practice nurse at your GP's. I appreciate people saying they have been without injections and have been fine, but both hep A and typhoid are nasty illnesses to catch, so if you can have the jab to prevent you getting them in the first place, then you are better off all round in my honest opinion. I am off to Sharm in september, so I shall be arranging mine shortly :D

i'd rather get them and be safe rather than not getting them and coming down with them

we got jabs when we went last month as we had been told that our travel insurance could be invalid if we needed to claim and not had the vaccinations
