Gas boiler getting old!

Howdy all
Just looking for some advice. We have a very old gas central heating boiler in the house that I'm worried will not last much longer. A new one cost several thousand and we have been told by Brtish gas that the current unit is too old for us to cover using their service agreement (we asked a year or so ago).
So, short of putting some money into savings, which we don't really have much of because of other debts, does anyone know of any other scheme that would let us effectively insure the boiler against failure, or at least relieve the financial burden when it finally does go?
