Has anyone got IKEA sliding door wardrobes?

We have Ikea Pax wardrobes in one room. They are 236cm in height and it stated on the website that 237cm height was needed to build them. We built them standing up as the fit was so tight we didn't have any spare room to play with, so couldn't build them lying down and then lift them as you would normally.
I'm now weighing up the options for sliding doors wardrobes in another bedroom. I was surprised how pricey 3 doors and a few tracks were so before I bite the bullet I'm looking into alternatives.
The Ikea sliding door robes are 236cm in height but the website states 240cm height is required, since the only difference is the doors themselves I can only assume the doors need to be lifted up above the height of the finished wardrobe and hooked on somehow? Is that why the 240cm is needed? I only have 236cm available so wont be able to go down this route if that is the case.

From memory (I spent 2 days building some last school holidays) the extra height needed was for lifting the doors onto the tracks. I'd say you wouldn't have a hope of getting it done in less than the height they say.I refuse to enter a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent:rolleyes:0

you could probably get away with it if your prepared to damage your ceiling :-S
I take it the ones you've built are hinged doors? I have those ones and the doors are sort of flush with the top of the frame of the wardrobe but from what I remember of the sliding ones they are slightly higher...
the shorter sliding door ones are MUCH shorter however!
Have you looked at different combinations of the hinged style such as a double frame with a single frame on the end?0 -
Yes, previous ones built were hinged doors. There's a hair's breadth between top of wardrobe and ceiling.
Has to be sliding doors for this room as room is so small. Will likely go down the fitted sliding door route, costly but space efficient iyswim.Herman - MP for all!0 -
We had problems assembiling the 236 height assembled upright then it leaned to the side and fell apart it is attached to the other units to sstop it falling apart
We purchased a complete wardrobe unit from Harveys for our other bedroom we were really pleased with the quality the only problem it is not flexible on size0
