on the topic of parking tickets, am I correct in saying that now you are not allowed to appeal until after the 28 days when you are issued with an NTO as opposed to the PCN? That sounds unfair to me 'cos if your appeal is rejected then you are stuck with an £80 instead of the £40 fine.
Secondly, has anyone come across a situation where there are two different kinds of parking meters found on the same street (not a very long street either) and some parking spaces are valid for one of the meters but not the other? I came across this in London and found it very odd. I arrived at my car to find the warden issuing me a ticket. I told him I'd paid and he said I paid from the wrong meter. He advised me to appeal. What's the world coming to?

The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.

the money programme (bbc) showed a good anaylsis of the parking issue last night. (you can look up the article on the bbc website).
they showed the parking meters from 2 boroughs across from each other and showed how you had to look at all the details on all signs...
yes, it is a bit mad.0 -
I'm always very careful when I park in town. I always make sure the car is in the bay and exactly paralell to the kerb, but not touching. A parking attendant complimented me with a little note that said "Parking Fine". I was really pleased that he'd noticed! :rolleyes:
Luckily, I never have to pay to park around here.Russ.0 -

If you put in an appeal straight away the 'clock' stops so to speak so you don't pay the large fine just cos you appealed!
You should try living in Brighton - bl**dy nightmare!~A mind is a terrible thing to waste on housework~0 -
Appeal straightaway and threaten to take the case to a magistrates court.
In the circumstances you've outlined, the parking authority would probably lose their case. Not everyone can fathom out these complex signs and instructions - and I don't just mean people who can't read, but also people who's first language may not be English.
The parking authority would probably waive the fine rather than face a challenge in court for three reasons:
* they'd lose
* they don't want the publicity
* they don't want one of their operatives wasting time at court when they could be making money.
Unfortunately, motorists are either too scared of going to court or can't afford to take time off for a day in court.
So they pay up.
It's wrong.

Thanks for the encouragement, Kaypeel. I have lodged my appeal and wait to see what happens. Its so frustratingly unfair. I'll update this post with the result. The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.0
