Taxi Fares - Is it time for them to be restructured?

In the past most people did not work on a Sunday or Bank Holidays. Also some of those that did work on a Bank Holiday got a premium for doing so.

Taxi fares still seem to be structured in this way, as an example a fare on Good Friday was £10.20 when normally it would have been £7.20.

Given that lots of businesses now operate 7 days a week with staff getting no extra pay and shops only closing on Christmas Day and Easter Sunday is it time for the taxi fare structure to be fundementally reviewed?

I get double time for working bank holidays. Which companies don't pay their staff double on bank holidays?

Despite the governments best efforts to take us that way we're not quite a third world country yet.

When I used to drive my subs were increased if I wanted to work over Christmas. If I didn't pay the hike I had to take three weeks off.

Cab driving cost me more money than it made.

    This problem is easily solved:

    Don't used taxis.

Get a bicycle or use shanks's pony.

Why can't they charge what they want?

And if you don't like it as was said walk or get the bus....simples!
  • My local firm didn't charge me any extra on good friday, And rarely charge extra on a bank holiday, Except christmas day or new years day, And even then it is down to the driver. They also make you aware when you ring up / get in what the fare is / will be approx.

Like they have said to me You called me not the other way around and I didn't make you get in here lol So I guess if you don't wanna pay don't get in.

So basically you are expecting people to take a pay cut because you need to get a taxi?

By and large they can charge what they like.

The only people who can’t are Hackney carriages flagged down on the street, their maximum fares are set by the local authority, they can work for less but can’t charge more than the meter shows.

Private hire and Hackney carriages arranged by phone don’t have to comply with the LA fare structure.

Out of curiosity what is the charge for first mile where you all are?

For here (Amber Valley) it is £2.60 and hasn't gone up in 5 years.
