its not waterproof plasterboard, its cement board which has many names including tilebacker and aquapanel.

If you go into bnq asking for waterproof plasterboard, god knows what the muppets in there would give you :)

siliconing a shower tray to its support is a crazy idea as silicon is designed to move!!

Better bedding it into the surface with a cement based powdered tile adhesive (bal rapid set).

    Anyone agree?

Out of curiosity why won't you buy aquapanel? It's actually cheaper than the comparable marine ply....never fails to astonish me that for the sake of say £40 people will risk the entire shower unit failing again.

Silicone doesn't provide any structure under the tray, the sand/cement bed is desinged to level the tray and provide structural support to the bed so its doesn't crack under repeated use.

As handyman suggested I used Bal rapidest flexible adhesive to bed the tray in, also had the benefit of not having to wait for it to set overnight.

because the shower has already been built, this is not a half built shower here its all done, the builder stroke cowboy has done it this way, i cant ripp it all down and start again, so i have to look for another way around it all, i cant believe ive got to sand and cement the shower tray down lol , and im gonna buy bal wp1 shower kit to seal it all , i know the aqua panels look fab and prob are, but they are a new addition and tanking was about before them so il pray it will be ok

Actually Aquapanel has been available for about 15 years. And if you only have a single sheet of ply fitted, the cost to replace would be about £24.
