Hello,
The wife and I ave recently purchased our very own first house.
We need to carpet the whole house and are on a budget and I didnt realise carpet shopping can be so confusing.
After reaidng pevious posts on MSeE about Carpet right and Allied carpets - i will not be shoppng there.
Could any one please give me some tips on what I should do to keep costs down, I was thnking about buying underlay and griper rods from the web and getting a fitter to fit them, I can then buy the carpet from a shop and then ask them to fit of the fiiter.
thnaks

I will be ordering a new carpet for lounge and Diner within the next 6 weeks .
Will need about 40 sq metres .
Do I go to a little independent local outfit...... haven't won the lotto this week , so will go somewhere much cheaper ... YES another fan of Carpet Right.
I Know to ignore the 50% off plus a further 20% ( or whatever the eye catcher is this week ) I know they will charge more for the underlay/fitting and del.
But the final bill will still vastly undercut anything my local independent could supply.
I have done the sums .0 -
I too am looking for a stair carpet 1m x 10m + underlay+delivery.
From carpet right for about £360, pushy salesman that told me the 50% + 20% was finishing that evening, so I walked.
On line is £160 (no fitting, pay a fitter for a day work to fit
(probably about £150-ish ).
Small independent trader who sold his shop and new owners moving in two days - £200 for everything (but too risky).
Small brash independent trader 2 - £11p/m + ulay extra and will not give me a fitting price, or per day charge, or time schedule due to possible 'fitting complications'. Delivery charge?
The easiest to deal with were on-line, but could only offer a list of fitters. Carpet right wanted £60 for delivery - I got 22Kg air freighted to Germany for £19!0 -
Buy your own door bars, underlay and grippers online and fit them yourself, just get the fittter to lay the actual carpet.
The carpet sheds make most of their profit on these items. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I used these approx 3 years ago. They were very good and i got upgraded underlay for free and they knocked quite a bit off the total price too.
(after doing my sums, it was much cheaper than my local and bigger carpet
stores).
