Boots Interview Help please

Hi everyone, i am new to here, but i love to read the posts and see the great advice people give, and hope you can give me some advice.
I have a interview with Boots on Friday for a sales consultant position and just wondered if anyone had any guidance or tips to help me in any way. The job itself would be on the make up counter.
Although im a qualified hairdresser, i have worked in Bereavement for 7 years and the job i am in now is very stressful and demanding, although rewarding. I have been looking for a change for a while as i work extremely long hours and my job does not finish when i get home as i am on call, i also have my mom who suffers with Parkinsons Disease, who needs my help quite a lot, add a husband and 3 children i am struggling at the moment. I would like a job that i can enjoy, come home and not have to worry about, as the slightest mistake could cause a major problem. I know i am lucky to have a job in this current climate but i am very unhappy to say the least. I feel I have pressure at all angles and would like perhaps a job that is less stressful for me.
I know i would lose a few thousand pounds a year, but surely my happiness would overcome that.
I would be grateful for any help or advice.

I used to work for Boots. I would have thought that they would be asking you about customer service as they used to have that high on the agenda. I can recall them asking me what I would do in different scenarios.

As you would be working on the make up counter, they may ask about hygiene and will want to know about your previous skincare training and whether you would be willing to complete their training.

Good luck! I enjoyed working for them.

Thank you, i do not have any skin care training, but i did explain this in my supporting information, i also said i would be willing to undergo any training or help needed. I have also looked into make up courses as i feel its something i would like to pursue.
    Thank you for your help.:D

If it is the No.7 counter, they will train you as it is their own brand. I completed the course (takes a number of weeks) and found it very informative.
Let me know how you get on.

Its for Loreal, but Boots are advertising the position, not Loreal themselves, so hopefully i might be ok. I have had a good look around the store as its my Local one anyway, and fingers crossed i might do ok, i always get nervous at interviews.
Of course i will keep you informed, and thank you very much for your advice.;)

    Hello. :)
    Sounds a smashing job.
I had a pal that left B&Q to join Boots the chemist as a "sunshop"consultant". That meant they gave her a grey suit with a unique name badge! She sold suntan lotion basically. Within 3 months, she was back at B&Q as she said they were dead !!!!!y!

All the best with it and let us know how you get on.:)

I used to work in the warehouse at a large Boots store.

Interview was mainly customer service related (although I never really had much contact with customers in the role).

Looking back; actually a good company to work for. I seem to remember pay was good for retail.

I was a student then so this is going back... a while! Christ, I'm getting old.

    Cheers, GreenSheep

I had a customer service interview with Boots a couple of years ago - half proper interview question based and half on the job assessment - greeting customers at the door, packing bags, etc.

You come across as an empathetic person in your post, and looking at your current job and family situation. People/communication skills are a real plus in most sections of retail so hopefully that will come acroos well at interview. I'm sure that they factor in a fair bit of training for all the things they can teach you, but no amount of training can give you good, honest, natural people skills.

Best of luck, it's priceless actually enjoying your work. Food tastes better, sleep is easier and colours brighter. The money you'll hopefully adjust to quickly.:)

Thank you everyone, it does sound like a good job for me and thats why i want it so much, as much as i enjoy my current job, the stress levels are very high and are affecting me.
My husband says as long as i am happy then we can adust to any pay cut.
Empathy is an important must in my current job as i see bereaved families every day, also had a lot of years in Hairdressing so i can extract conversations out of people even when they dont want to ha ha.
I wil let you all know how i get on.
    Roll on Friday :p
  • i currently work for boots as a sales assistant and the interview process is very easy going, they ask you a few question on relevent experience and why you would like to work for boots etc and then take you on the shop floor, my assestment they took me over to a display that was messy and needed stocking up and asked me what i would do to this display so i pointed out areas that need stocking and tidying ect then took me to the front of the shop where i handed out baskets, helped pack customers bags and handed out advantage card applications. and also they test you on a product search to see whever you can find a product just by taking notice on signs ect. it was a very relaxed interview

i took on the job as i had been a full time mum for a few years and my last job before my children i was a supervisor and like you, you would go home and not be able to shut off as you would be thinking about work the next day. i enjoy it as at home im in charge im the boss and constintly thinking about mummy things and dont switch off till kids are in bed so wanted something that can work my brain but still be able to switch off when my shift ended and not even think about it till my next shift started.

i think even though you have no retail experience i think your bereavement job will be very good in your favour as alot of the customers are coming in for medicenes and i find that alot of customers tell me loads of health and family problems, most people dont want answers some just want to talk.
If you want to see the rainbow ,you gotta put up with some rain
