Laptop - Techie Help needed

I was wondering if anyone would be able to shed any light on a problem that I have with my old laptop.
When I log on, I appear to be getting a message saying 'Duplicate User account exists'.
Does anyone know how I can sort the problem out? There is only one user account showing in the settings. I have never set any others out.
