If the link works, its here: http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b&c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&oc=N02116&rbc=N02116&s=dhs&sbc=ukdhsrsinspn_1150_20 -
would this be an up to date laptop as far as the latest technologhy goes?0

Not amazingly so, it's a little heavy and doesn't use the latest Intel mobile technology (Centrino). It shares it's memory with the system rather than having dedicated graphical memory. It doesn't have a widescreen TFT. It doesn't have wireless connectivity.
That said, you don't get the latest technology for this kind of money and having seen this offer posted on another forum a few days ago (rpoints) I am recommending to my aunt that she gets one of these.
If you want up-to-date for more money, the MV Moebus is meant to be a storming machine (https://www.go-mv.com) for the $$$.

is the dvd writer also a CD writer - or will it just run/write dvds?
also is there anyway in which you could upgrade the graphics card - maybe outside of dell (ie is there any ports available inside the laptop to do this)?0 -
DVD writers all write CDs.
I very much doubt you could upgrade the graphics. Not the sort of thing laptops were designed for. You should start from a different direction on this one.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0
