I hired one for £60 and it was £60 wasted for me I'm afraid!

Yes, I hired one for each of my two labours and found it useful. When labour got going, I left it on full and also had gas and air, nothing else depsite 1st birth being long and tricky. I would recommend it - you haven't got much to lose. It also helped me initially in the early stages of labour as adjusting it was a distraction and gave me something to concentate on during contractions. Good luck!

have to say - dont hire one - buy one. you could always ebay it afterwards or sell it through your local newspaper. or you may want to keep it if you find it helps pain relief. I have had mine for over ten years and its used occasionally by me, my OH and other members of the family so i think they are really worth the money.

    hi chick :)

I bought one of ebay for about £25 - I went into labour a couple of days after receiving it so was reading the instructions whilst contracting!

My friend bought me one as a gift, OH had stuck the pads on my back before we'd read the instructions!!

I was lucky the midwife did it for me!
I went into labour 3 weeks early - I'm just glad the woman I bought it off had left the batteries in and they still had some life in them :rotfl:

I hired the Elle tens one and would 100% recommend it, although I know they don't work for everyone. Personally I was very lucky with my labour and the TENS was the only pain relief I used! However even if you don't get on with it, it's worth a try and better to have one than not have one and wish you had!

We are planning on having 2 children and hiring the Elle tens twice would actually be cheaper than buying it as it is one of the more expensive ones, but they do have a good re-sale value so you could factor that in.

Why do you have to hire the TENS machine? I was given one in hospital when in labour (though if you are having a home birth I can see why)

I found the tens machine awful, it was like little electric shocks, I preferred the contractions without it!

Because the hospital want you to wait as long as possible before coming in, it's for early labour really

    too many comps..not enough time!

Don't worry I'm definitely up for that when I get to the hospital, I'm only talking about before I get there. I'm a complete wimp so will take everything offered!! :D
