Apart from taking shorter showers there's not a lot you can do - if you have a lower powered shower then it just means that you do end up with less throughput of water to achieve the same temperature - ie a trickle. Electric showers are still the most economic because you're only heating the water as you use it.

Does the boiler provide your hot water? If so, you don't need an electric shower. An electric shower takes cold water and heats it - hence the cost.

If you already have a hot water supply, you want a shower that will mix the existing hot & cold water supply - no point in paying for the shower to heat water when you already have it!

My hot water is provided by the AGA. My existing shower runs off this - and I'm just installing a second shower in a new en-suite. Again, the new shower will run off the existing hot water, provided by the AGA.

I'm not great with the technicalities, so wait for others to chip in - but my guess is that your electricity bill is for heating the water in the shower
