BT HTC Phone S710 - can we unlock this phone to use as PAYG?

Hi

We have a BT HTC S710 mobile phone and wondered if anyone knows if we can unlock it so we can use it with a PAYG Sim card - currently we are on Orange. Ideally if there is a free maybe online way to unlock it that would be great.

Thx very much for any help with this.

no free way but you can buy codes off ebay

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Unlock-code-for-ANY-HTC-BT-NETWORK-S620-S630-S710-G1_W0QQitemZ400104714576QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_3?hash=item5d28197150

put another network sim card in the phone , turned on and enter the code when asked (you get asked twice)

phone should now show other network on the display

1)Reset the phone to default to remove any Operator software ( BT software will attempt to reinstall the original BT settings all the time otherwise , also makes the phone run faster)

    a. Press and hold soft1 and soft2 keys. (top buttons on Keypad that look like "-" on either side)
    b. Press and hold power button for around 1 to 1.5 seconds. Release power button. Keep holding the soft1 and soft2 keys.
    c. Later, screen should show instructions to ask user to press '0' key to reset to factory default. (may ask you to press "send" which is the green handset button)
    d. Press '0' within the timeout period, which is only several seconds only.
    e. If no instruction is shown on the screen, repeat steps 1 to 4.

    The timing is sensitive.

    2) download this tool to set up the network settings for you

    http://www.teamatlas.co.uk/page6.html

Click here to download this handy file. .Extract the files from the archive and run them on your PC. ActiveSync must be installed. Tick the required network and then install the cab ,

the phone should now be fully unlocked and working on your desired network , send a text etc to confirm

please note, the hard reset removes all your settings and downloaded apps from the phone , back them up first

  • Thank you very much for your detailed and helpful reply. Will copy this to PC to tackle probably Tuesday (as it says business hours on the ebay link) and perhaps if I get stuck I can post again.... Seems straightforward though thanks to your detailed reply. We don't really use this phone but it would be great to be able to do so, so fingers crossed it all works...

The Teamatlas links seem to be broken. Is there another source or can it be done manually?

    TIA

Have you tried it with the Orange PAYG Sim? A few years ago I had a Sony Ericsson BT phone, and BT told me that their phones were not locked to any network and would work with any Sim. Mine worked with an Orange Sim back then.
