Good day all, here's my problem.

I have a Free-loader (Solar charger) that I would like to use to charge my mobile (MTC Magic).

The free loader is fully charged (from a mains supply) but won't charge my phone, now as I understand it this is due to it being 'dumb' which means it won't work correctly if it's not connected to a computer???

Fortunately the connecter is easily disassembled so I have taken a picture. From what I have read so far this issue has something to do with the resistor, but beyond that I'm getting lost.

not seeing all the pins, it seems that a 100k resistor is pulling down one of the data lines. being a 100k resistor, looks more like attaching to a tri-state connection.

Knowing zero about free-loader, or how and where the above is connected does not help.

Think you should get a multimeter and trace it through.

Don't get confused by the word 'dumb' as it means not intelligent. Smart implies seeking, detection circuity.
  • The USB standard prohibits devices from consuming more than 100mA of power until given permission to consume more, which may be upto 500mA. Furthermore if there is no signal from the host it must consume no more 0.3mA.

Therefore the pictured adapter can not be used to charge the batteries of any device complying with the USB standard in a reasonable time.
