My Cat Still Poos In the Yard

She uses the litter tray inside but when outside even when I put her in the front garden of my terraced she still goes to the back behind the shed and does about three poos if shes out at night, and does it on the concrete.
I have tried washing the area with washing powder anything to stop her going there or making it smell strong so she wont use the area. thing is there is masses of countryside on my front door and back and she wont use it.
Charlie my male 8yr old cat stays in all day, never uses the litter tray and then goes out at 10pm at night and stays out and does his business elsewhere .

Maybe I should invest in an outside litter tray instead with a cover on it and when I go to work bring it inside so she can use it when shes in and also when shes out at night.

Any ideas?

Three poos overnight is a lot, have you tried changing the diet? Noah went from three times a day to once when I went to a high meat/ low grain/ partially raw diet and the smell vanished! :j You could definitely try an tray outside, you would have to make it waterproof somehow in case it rains.

we have an indoor tray and outdoor tray .otherwise daisy goes on our grass. the outdoor tray is under a trailer and has multi purpose compost in as its cheap and no accidents on the grass since we had tray. at least children can play outside now.
  • Hi firefox I really can't afford to give the cats meat even in the tins, I always stick to asda or tesco dried food, they get meat as a treat sometimes but charlie my male cat never has any trouble, its just gracie must have a sensitive stomach.
I will see if i can get an outdoor tray with a cover, i used to have one but gave it away before I got gracie because my other cats i had always did their business elsewhere.

  • I would say that as long as you know where your cat is poo-ing then that's good and you shouldn't do anything to change the situation. Just do what dog owners are required to do, and clear it up yourself - it's your pet.

I know you state you are surrounded by countryside, but you really don't know where 'elsewhere' is, where your cat would choose to poo.

Speaking as the owner of a garden which is considered 'elsewhere' by most cat owners in my street - I don't enjoy picking up cat poo before I can let my children play in the garden - perhaps if I were to knock on the door of the cat owners who enjoy their nice clean gardens while their cats poo 'elsewhere' my children could go and play in their garden instead.

Hope you find a good solution to the problem that hopefully involves you dealing with the poo rather than trusting the 'elsewhere' isn't somewhere causing annoyance to someone. The covered litter tray in your own garden sounds ideal.
