livinginhope's SOA and help wanted

Hi all,as you all know by now I have massive debts that are being paid by a DMP with payplan, hubby got a better job with more pay after being made redundant again! problem is we still don't have any money left  could all lovely peeps have a look at my SOA and see if you could save me any more money to give to payplan so we can reduce our 58 years debt free date  here goes

income OH 1600
child benefit 69
TOTAL 1669

outgoings : Mortgage 583
council tax 140
gas 30
electricity 30

we also pay 115/month to payplan

total debt 106400

When hubby was made redundant we had to use our overdraft and are now paying it back, hoping to clear it by the end of the month, but would also like to pay a lot more to payplan now things look rosier, where can we cut back any more than already done so
thanks in advance for any suggestions :A

You SOA seems very reasonable to me.

I assume from £69 a month CB you only have one child. So do think that you could chip a little off the food bill maybe £50 a month. You don't say what type or how many pets you have. But I feed two adults on between £70-£100 a month. Depends on what is in season in the garden and what reduced to clear goodies I can get.

Water is very high is that a meter. If so you might be able to cut it back a little but not much. My entire bill for two of us for 6 months is only £73.

Do you not get tax credits. Is there no way for you get a little part time job in the evenings or at weekends. Of course as long as your OH is not working shifts etc.

I wish you all the best. Take care.

  • Hi

I dont know your circumstances, but could you take on a part-time job? A couple of evenings a week work in a call centre etc could bring in £100 pw.

gas 30 - This is a bit high. Are you on the cheapest supplier and being really careful with gas?
electricity 30 - This seems high too, as above.
water 64 - This is very high. Are you on a water meter?
    ntl 43
    tv licence 11.07
life ins. 42 - Could you cash this in and pay it towards the debts?
    mortgage ins 28
car tax/mot/ins 45 - Could you get rid of the car?
    petrol 25 - Ditto
food inc pet 240 - You could get this down with the help of the people on the Old Style board.
    health costs 25
    school bits 5
dog training 8 - You don't need this
haircuts 7 - Have you hair done at the local college or let it grow.

Thanks for the quick replies, the water is one of my biggest gripes,we are not on a meter, but because we pay 2 companies one for supply the other for waste it's so dear.I have asked about a meter, but they suggested not to change as I suffer badly with crohn's disease and use loads of water each day.Is there anyway of calculating how much it would cost on a meter? someone mentioned a few years ago that you can get the water bill capped if you HAVE to use a lot, does anyone know about this?
I am unable to work at the moment due to my health problems,I have applied twice for DLA but obviously not filling in the forms right
The life insurance has no cash in value,I wouldn't dare stop paying it with so much debt, also I wouldn't be able to get such reasonable cover if I applied again.
Dog training will stop within the next couple of months so will have that 8 quid,we have to take him as he is a very dominant dog that needs calming,he's nearly there :D
Getting rid of the car is a no no,as I have mobility issues I rely on it to get about,I want OH to sell the motorbike and am working on him as we speak ;)
I've tried getting the food bill down but don't know what's happened,I make eveything from scratch, maybe that's the problem toooo much baking
Looking at the SOA again it doesn't look as bad as I thought, when I've cleared the overdraft I will up the payplan payment :j

Yes we did and we are entitled to about 40/month,but due to an earlier overpayment, last year, they have stopped our payments until the money has been paid back  very angry about this because they paid the money into our current account that we don't use anymore and it was swallowed by the overdraft and we didn't actually get at it:mad:

    Hi LH
Nice to see you back and glad hubby's job worked out.

Dog Training - are there any local rescue's about that could help? Breed rescues often help people with their dogs behaviour for free.

Sorry about tax credits, in same boat myself there:mad:

I think you can get your water capped it is some sort of social tariff type thing.

I am sure you have to have someone with excema or such like and I think getting some sort of benefits as well.

Have a look on your water suppliers web site. My normally send something with the bill about.

I'm glad his job worked out, after the first day he hated it and said he would last a week, but it's turned out better as times gone on and now he's happy, although I still wait everyday for him to mutter those words 'i've been made redundant AGAIN'
The dog training is by a local rescue group at 2/week,they have been brilliant and would like to see it through,we look on it as a family outing it seems cheap then :o the dog doesn't have a problem, but he's a rescue pup and were advised to get him trained.
Tax credits  they give you them to help you out,but they cause hardship by taking them away,I know so many people in this situation
nice to hear from you jaja :D

  • DLA - try finding a disability rights advisor to help you apply - local disability forum may be able to help you.
