NPower reissuing gas bill.
Options
In May, NPower issued me with an estimated gas bill, and estimated my meter reading as 0989. They had seriously overestimated me but I paid my bill thinking that the next one wouldn't be so bad.
Last week, they came and read my meter, which read 0994, so in effect [or so I thought] could only charge me for 5 units.
Yesterday however, NPower sent my gas bill out and revised all the figures from Febuary, splitting the meter reading into three different amounts and now say I owe them £24.
My question is, can they do this?
They have estimated me an amount for the periods February to April, April to May and May to the current reading. At the bottom of the bill it states This bill replaces all bills you may have received from February 06.

Yes, of course they can do this.
The reason you now owe them money is (presumably) because the February over-estimated bill was at a lower unit rate than the revised bill for the quarter to May.
As long as their apportionment of the bill is reasonable, you don't have any reason to challenge it.
If their apportionment is wrong (e.g. because you noted the actual reading when the estimated bill arrived, but didn't bother to let them know) you can ask them to issue a revised February bill with the actual reading rather than their revised apportioned estimate.
NPower have estimated the apportionment on my bill over these periods and their apportionment is dodgy to say the least; they haven't replied to my e-mail asking how they have worked out the split. So I'd phone rather than e-mail if you think there are some changes required.0 -
I figure it is a reasonable split. I'm still mad though as I now have to pay £24. Ah well..............There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0
