DLA after hip replacement ?

Options
Last week my Orthopedic surgeon told me that I really need to have my hip replaced ASAP, as its now weraing down the socket.

I am only 35 & have been on DLA higher rate mobilty (indefinate) for some time now.

My question is, would I still get my DLA after my hip operation ?

I know I have to put my health first, but I'm really worried about loosing my money which I need to pay my bills etc...

Will you still have the same care and mobility needs? I am guessing you will not, or at least they will not be as severe. You must inform the DWP of all changes in your care and mobility needs.

    The Hospital inform DWP automatically.

Even after my op, there is no guarantee that I will be pain free. I wish it was that easy.

Are you actually contemplating not having the surgery so that you keep the DLA? Surely you managed before and can again and be pain free into the bargain....

    No not at all.

I just want to prepare myself, & was wondering if anyone has been through a similar experience.

I had my THR 5yrs ago and like most people I know had an excellent outcome, and was free of the dreadful hip pain almost straight away although of course pain from the actually surgery took a little longer.. but after the recovery the hip is excellent and pain free, although I now have to look forward to the second hip surgery anytime soon. I never did claim DLA although I had to take early -retirement from my very physical job. Hopefully you will have a good outcome after the surgery and be pain free and able to resume you life as it was before but of course you may not then qualify for DLA as you will deemed to be back to full health if your surgery goes well and is free of complications..

Glad to hear that you had a good outcome after your surgery, & I wish you all the best with your next op.:)

I don't know whether this is your only health problem but surely you may be well enough to work again if this operation is successful?

They do not have to do this, and many do not. It is your responsibility to ensure that the DWP are kept informed, so you need to contact them also.
