Anyway, back to work. The poops, the poops are calling, from glen to glen and down the mountainside.
Geordiejoe, less caffeine maybe?Poobah, did I cut and paste that info from your site? Sorry, I was just trying to show the OP an example of how you'd advertise your services if you were trying to tell people why they needed you.
Why I wander away from the dribblers I don't know, everyone else is so argumentative :eek:I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick @ss.... and I'm all out of bubblegum.0 -
Poohba, good grief, you are getting some sh** on here, LOL, did you see what I did there?? ha ha.
Anyhow, you can have your website in your profile so go put it back and you are welcome to give people advise so do not let this person put you off.
I personally cannot see how you can generate any business from posting what you have done - like you are going to pop over the atlantic to pick up some crap from someones garden for $10. Jeez! Come on geordiejoe get a grip.
Beautyandthebeast, there are thousands of people in the UK cleaning up after you have had a poo, they probably smell the same as you describe but if you do not clean it up then who is going to? As much as they smell of your poo when they get home at night - do you think they might ingest it too when cleaning drains and sewers, etc...? Did you really give that much thought.
Back to the OP. If you were offering to clean the area too then you would get more business - as for going in with a poop bag and picking it up then no, I doubt there would be that much call for it, you can however get a unit that cleans after it scoops and this would be more attractive to people and local councils and would generate you more sales. Maybe Poohba could tell you where to get one of those. Totally within the rules I might add - the same as hundreds of other ads asking 'where can I get.....?'0 -
leaflet a posh area local to you, get the leaflet done really well not on the cheap word art rubbish, emphasise the unsightliness of dog poo and the risk to children.
job done.
its people thinking about doing things that others think is nonsense that often gets them places in life while others just sit on their behinds.
The point about research is very valid though - do the people who set up a new barbers when there are 12 in the same street investigate thoroughly whether the community has a need for another one? I somehow doubt it - 3 months later the premises is up for rental again. You need to research your local market - perhaps you could leaflet saying "service starting on 1st May, phone for more information & to book" - dunno if thats a good idea but I guess carrying out research locally would cost you as much as the leafleting itself so you may as well combine the two.
oh and area is very important - there is NO WAY this would work in some areas - ironically, you might find the worst places for it would be the ones you find the most cr*p in the street.0 -

I could do it for $10 and a $1,700 trip charge, but I think the real problem would be getting the poop through airport security. :rotfl:0 -
Came across this a couple of years ago via a US website. never heard of it being done here.
Often wondered whether it would work here. One problem would be to get enough customers in a relatively confined area. The last thing you want to be doing (especially at the moment) is having to drive a few miles from job to job.
It should be a daily job although I doubt you would get anyone to pay for that.0 -
I'm a gardener and you would not believe the kind of conditions that people expect you to work in. I went to one garden and asked the lady if she would scoop the poop before I mowed the lawn and she collected 48 piles of poop. Boy was she cross cos it was supposed to be her husbands job. I would love people to scoop the poop daily. Have you ever had to clean a mower down thats covered in cr4p. Needless to say, I now ask whether people have a dog and how often the scoop the poop. I don't work for anyone that doesn't do it regularly.0

Do these people use their gardens to sit in and enjoy, rather than as a doggy toilet? I have a dog, and clear up once/twice a day after him. (In winter though less often.)0 -
That's also why it isn't very useful as fertilizer, btw. The carnivorous aspect, I mean. Most non-chemical commercial fertilizers consist of cow, sheep, horse or chicken manure. Worm castings are an up and coming thing, too.
There is a program in San Francisco using canine waste to generate methane, but by and large it isn't recommended for use as fertilizer. There are some companies composting it, but even they say it shouldn't be used on food crops.
No offense taken! No, I don't smell of poop... Shoes and tools are sanitized between stops, and I bathe regularly. Accidentally ingest some?! I'm not throwing it around at random with a pitchfork!
It's not that risky. Bites are much more of a risk than disease. After all, dogs have been doing their business around humans for thousands of years, how many people have you heard of who have gotten sick from it? People would pale if they knew how much dirt, how many bugs, etc. we consume in the course of our lives. As a species, we're pretty resilient. Attractive? The money's attractive.
Thanks for your reply.
geordie joe: I removed my web link from my profile and edited my original post.
I hope you're satisfied now, and can go pester someone else.
Im a qualified Scientist, hence i understand your points but im sure that there could be more 'cleaner' jobs available to you?
