I found THIS whilst looking for DVD software and its really good!
Watch movie DVDs and video files right on your computer with AVS DVD Player. It includes the following features: universal DVD and video player; stereo to surround transformation; easy navigation between scenes; and multilingual support. The program supports a variety of video formats. Apart from regular DVD formats, also supported are the entire range of MPEG4 (including DivX and XviD), MPEG1, MPEG2, AVI, Real Media video, QuickTime files, WMV files (including WMV-HD), H.263, H.264 and mobile video formats (3GP, 3GP2, MP4).

Latest version of Windows Media Player includes all divx/xvid and codecs needed to play DVD's on your pc.

Personally I prefer videolan (https://www.videolan.org) for watching DVDs which is also a freebie0
