Ok, here's a challenge for you guys
I've found a converter claiming to convert my LP's and cassette tapes into MP3 files and then save them on to a mass storage device such as a memory stick or SD card (without the use of a computer). This is perfect for me because I don't have a computer at home and wish to save my LP's onto a device like this so that I can download them later onto my PC at work. I have a very high spec turntable -so no probs there...
This all sounds good but I haven't been able to find ANY information on this product or anything similar to it. The eBay seller has also removed the makers name from the listing.
Has anyone heard of such a thing?
Want to find out if this is too good to be true before I bid...
Many Thanks

Try posting a link, then we can figure out what you are talking about.poppy100

The only ones I can find are boxes that hook up to a PC, so that you save the mp3s onto the PC, then copy to USB or card device.
Post a link to the eBay listing, or the eBay item number.0 -
I used iMic to convert load of tapes to a WAV file then converted those to MP3 but it was via a MAC/PC0

The kit you describe does not contain a pre-amp enabling your turntable to connect to a PC. It will only use line level inputs to your PC through the AUX input socket, e.g. tape player or iphone so if you specifically need to convert LP's to MP3 you would need to tape it first, then play it back into a PC using the software provided.
Taping first ins't a good idea as it introduces an unnecessary conversion process, reducing final quality. I presume the OP has an amp with a phono/RIAA input for his high-end turntable, so he can feed the analogue to digital convertor from the tape out or pre-amp output of that. There's love in this world for everyone. Interesting - but certainly looks as though OP would have to connect Tape Out to this gadget, rather than plugging turntable straight in.
Also seems it might lack editing facilities - i.e. you have to start it after you drop the pickup on the record, and stop it before the pickup hits the runout groove, else your mp3 contains the associated noises - and unless you do one track at a time, you end up with an mp3 containing the whole side of the LP, without track breaks.
Fine for recording Tangerine Dream or Yes, not so suitable for Britney Spears and Girls Aloud.....0 -
