A browser is only as safe as the person using it.
Try them all out and see which one(s) you prefer.
Mmmm can't argue with Marty on this point , now OP read his opinion and add a mental note "should I click on this and what are the implications", before you do. Best advice from an apple user that I have seen on these forums Bravo Marty :T Now OP go try Safari then go for firefox + noscript4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . OK I will bite.
Work PCs and laptops have paid for AV from a well respected name. I have worked in places where people have opened up dodgy websites and got infected.
Rats! I was just going to switch off when I spotted this. So...
Which AV? Well respected by whom?
Have you seen the test results published by av-comparatives.org? Where does the 'well respected' AV figure in the tables? [I wish I could find some more sites with truly objective testing. Anyone know of any others?]
If your work AV is in that list and not in the top 3 overall then go find the person who decided to use it and shove it under his/her nose. Real facts are as rare as hen's teeth; hyperbole is legion. It's probably not his/her fault if he/she followed the herd because they couldn't find any really objective analysis, but there's no excuse if you tell them (nicely!) where they can find at least a basis for future judgments. Make sure you/he/she appreciate the reason for having the two different types of test: total protection depends on the sum of the of the 'known villains' and 'suspicious activity' checking aspects of the AV software used. And false positives will cause real problems in a workplace, so don't ignore them.
If your work AV is in the top 3 then you've either been very, very unlucky or the staff have been wandering off into the forbidden zones of the web and they need a bit more discipline.
There's no 'perfect solution' when shopping for AV software, but there's no excuse for ignoring what little factual information there is out there.
Good luck with the presentation of the reports (if it happens) and keep checking back on av-comparatives.org for future tests.0 -

Once again, don't know much about pc tech but learning as we go along from all the help we have been given on here.
IE8 has got a lot better but as people have said IE is targeted more as it's more used. Firefox I use myself just because I like it and it seems faster. It also doesn't use activex which is the biggest secure hole or target.
They all have holes just the other browser seem to plug them a hell of a lot quicker than MS do with IE holes. Also the problem with IE is it's so tired into the Operating System. So if they get through IE, they could own the hole system. If they get into Firefox, they can normally only take down Firefox. But you break something in IE, they can potentially break the whole OS.
Just pick what you like and just be cautious of the sites you visit and don't open links that people send you in forwards, unless of course you've requested them to forward you something in the e-mail. That's the main reason the guy across the road from me keeps getting infected. Because he reads and opens the stupid FWD e-mails he gets sent with stupid jokes etc.0 -

Firefox, because I have to use a PC at work, but Mac at home - and because of the variety of useful add-ons including the vital XMARKS that ensures all bookmarks across all machines are in synch.Under no circumstances may any part of my postings be used, quoted, repeated, transferred or published by any third party in ANY medium outside of this website without express written permission. Thank you.0 -
I use Firefox, with Adblock Plus, NoScript , and WOT security addons.
It works great. There have been just a couple of times when I went on a microsoft page that I had trouble viewing it. Also some (not many) programs try and to open up a web page using IE, instead of FF.
The latest Opera is great though, as its fast, with good security features, integral bittorrent download manager, widgets, and speed dial. I am going to give another go, as I currently just use on my phone.0 -

And it's not a simple as telling someone they should use something different as the politics of buying software licenses in some companies is a nightmare. Even though most places use one in the top 5.
As I work in IT the culprits are either other IT staff like me who can use any website they like apart from !!!!!!, or managers who allow their children and spouse to use their laptops at home.
The IT staff should know better.
And the managers tend to be a lost cause.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
