AVG Anti-virus is giving an error when trying to connect to internet

I am getting an error when I try to install AVG Anti-virus. It gives the following:
"The AVG setup is not able to detect a working Internet connection. Please make sure that you are connected to the Internet and click Retry to try again.
If you connect to the Internet through a proxy server, please click on the Proxy Settings button below to specify your proxy information"
Before anyone asks, there is nothing wrong with my internet connection AFAIK.
One other very suspicious thing I have noticed is that Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware opens but then closes by itself when I try to click on a scan button (as if it knows I am going to click on it and then just closes down so I am unable to click on it).
Any clues?

Tried downloading a fresh copy of malwarebytes?
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD THIS VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/2894/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log):idea:0 -
