Underfloor speaker cable??

Does anyone have experience with running speaker cables into the plaster & under the floor?

We have 5.1 surround speakers and when we (hopefully) move, we want to renovate the living room. We wanted a laminate/solid wood floor so its difficult to hide on the floor. At the moment the rear speaker cables (5mm thick, x2) are running under the rag and although not too obvious, you can still see it. I know the easiest option is to run the cables along the wall on top of skirting board but this will be visible.

So can I run the cable into the plaster, behind skirting, under the laminate, and up on the other side of the wall? I dont really want to break the cable (as that equals deterioration in signal quality) and its probably best to run the cable through a tunnel.

Any ideas??

Id suggest cutting plaster at the bottom or come about an 1" short of the floor then put it behind skirting. If you need to go up wall just cut out about 1cm out of the wall and then plaster or polyfill up and sand, paint over and all done.
    Kind Regards

Have you considered smooth profile trunking?

    Thanks for the advice.

Trunking looks easier to fit and doesn't look too bad! I suppose it also depends on how I wil run it infront of the patio door as well - we are thinking of putting a bifold patio door which will be near flush with the floor.

And under floor option may be cheaper for cable as well. Hmmm......

trunking or conduit under the floor and modern skirting has the rear corner cut out.
perfect for running a cable behind.
    Get some gorm.

hi , renovated my front room reciently. I ran all cabling that i needed for my sound system behind the coving. I then fixed the surround speakers just below the coving. hope this helps:beer:

There's no reason why breaking and rejoining the cable with proper connectors should reduce signal quality.

Essential to run in a conduit. The chemicals in plaster will not be friendly to the speaker sheathing.

There's a lot of HiFi journalists and enthusiasts who would disagree.....

This issue is avoided if the OP runs them into the skirting iself, down the back to go below the flooring.....
