Hi

Could anyone advise me if a check of a cars handbrake (travel/tightness) is standard as part of a service regardless of it being a main or intermediate service ?

Thanks in advance.

Guess it would depend on the dealer but from experience I can tell you that both Ford and Lexus (makes of car I've owned) adjust the handbrake on the services. It always has a lot less travel after a service.

I'm fairly sure that excessive handbrake travel is an MOT fail which is probably why it's done on the service.

The handbrake must have more than 16% efficiency for it to pass the MOT. A handbrake that is working at 16% won't be able to hold a car on a really steep hill.

Why are you asking? Why not ask the garage? They will probably know better than anyone.

    Hi

The reason for asking is I had a service and handbrake was not adjusted & I was not sure if I should be anoyed at them for not doing it or anoyed at myself for not asking for it to be done.

    Thanks.
