1, 2 or 3 yr fixed OR NSI Index Linked Certs?

My mother is 78 with all monies in either Cash ISAs/Savings accounts totalling £60k+. She now has a further £20k to find a place for. we are considering £5100 in the M & S Fixed ISA for 3 rs at 4% but unsure whether to place the remainder in the NS Index Linked Certs or a 1 2 or 3 yr fixed rate bond where she can get 4-4.6% fixed

Or are there any other lower risk options?

Can't go wrong with NS&I really; t hey're 100% government backed and if inflation goes through the roof, it'll earn a pretty penny. If it doesn't, you won't lose anything but the interest will be pretty naff (1% or so).

And don't forget they are tax free, so if OP's mother is a basic rate taxpayer the return is 20% better than quoted building society rates for non-ISA accounts
