Interpretting this notice I received.

I am in credit card arrears with the halifax, 4 months without a payment, and just received a notice from retail bank collections in a "payslip" format, ie. not an envelope but perforated edges. And it said this:
"Our representative will be calling your home on 8th April. Phone this number if its inconvenient...." That's all it said.
Does this mean a phone call or a house visit?
Could it be bailiffs?
What should I expect?

I doubt if anyone will call, but if they do they have no more rights than the milkman, it definitely will not be bailiffs. If they do call either ignore them, or ask them to go away and contact you only in writing.

...but don't let them in if they do call - more than likely it will be a phonecall.

i think it is also worded so it sounds like they will visit you to scare you into calling them...

don't let them in if anyone does arrive at your home

I would imagine that it will be a debt collector who has no rights whatsoever. We didn't used to answer the door and if we did, we would soon let them know that we weren't interested. I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry about it. If it was a bailiff then they would have to have been appointed by the local court and you would know about it. When we got letters like that through the door they often didn't even turn up, they would just call.

Thanks guys makes me feel a bit better. I've not had any court orders yet, but have already had numerous phone calls. That's why it feels like it's gonna be a house visit :(

Not necessarily. I had those phone calls for 11 months before I eventually went BR, many postcards and letters saying they would call and they never did - not once! They just use those as a scare tactics but if, in the unlikely event they do come round, do not let them in the door.

Exactomendo as fiveyearplan and I think it was round about 11 months as well (probably more .. it's all a blur) and never had one visit from anyone, many phone calls, many letters, debt kept getting 'shuffled around' .. moorcroft, capquest, 1 thingy' feel I know them all so try not to worry too much about this.
Still have a mild panic attack when the phone starts ringing but doesn't happen so much now since last Monday.

  • I wouldnt worry about it, my husband was hassled for months no make that years by 1st credit acting for barclaycard and were threatening alsorts but nothing ever came of it. Same with me for a gas bill for swalec, for which i never had the original bill - were going to take me to court for a ccj etc, but it never happened.

The only ex-creditor i have still hassling me is HSBC almost daily with letters, Ironic they were my employer until last June! - but have a feeling that will stop in the next week or so, as i had my or interview last week.

As everyone else has said, send them away with a flea in their ear!!!!!
