oh i'm reading Tim Ferris just now .... is it 4 hour working week your reading ?

Hi El, and yes - I did read this. Now I have made it my bible and am working through the exercises, challenges and suggestions. Have already done the 'eye gazing' but still shy of 'rest in public'.

SW, you will probably haver to buy the book - Pickle did after all. But it is not for reading, this book is for action.

So why I am not doing it. Because I have other unfinished things to do. Am I working on those unfinished businesses? No! What am I doing - cross stitching. Is cross stitching helping me to sort out the unfinished businesses? No! Is it helping me to become what I want most. No! So why don't I just allocate time and get on with it? Because I would be so upset if I was completely rubbish at something that I really want to do. Or I don't believe I can do it and don't want to prove myself right. Oh dear...

Yep! Know existentially how do you feel - excatly the same as me and writing a book that is not academic.

What shall we do about it? Tim recomends the action list - what you do immediately, what you do tomorrow, what you do the day after tomorrow. In actions so simple that they take no more than five minutes to complete.

Worked till I set up the blog - but the first post is still not written.

I looked at his site and was confused there was so much stuff there. Aesop kindly gave me a link for the book (on 3dogs' thread last night) and dreamlines and i will attempt later. Off to have a walk in this glorious weather. Have a good day all.

The question I worked on was ‘what are you putting off from fear?’ And I know that the thing I am putting off from fear is the thing that will give me the biggest kick of all – to write a book people really want to read. What is the fear? Oh, you know, that if I do there won’t be any doubt that I can’t crack it; but if I don’t do it I can continue doing the Lady Catherine thing...’I never wrote a popular/self help book. But if I did it would have been a real bestseller.’ You get the drift. But when I got to the question ‘what is it costing you?’ I realised that not doing something I really want to do is costing me big time – financially, emotionally and possibly physically.Firewalker

Oh dear! That really spoke to me. I have the opportunity to submit some writing for sale and am SO into the fear of failure that I'm still at the stage of working out 50 ways to cook a cabbage to save money - and keep busy so I don't have time.

It is something I would enjoy doing, would make a useful supplement to our retirement income and give me a big boost in self confidence as I've come to realise just how much my sense of identity was tied in with my work persona. I've written for publication before but within my own field of expertise and this would be a challenge.

I curled my lip somewhat at yet another 'guru' written self help book but . . . . I've ordered it. At least some of what he wrote on his website makes good sense and rings bells - especially the dreamlines.
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?
  • Elantan where on the site is it? I appear to be the dunce in the group i keep looking at his blog thing and getting distracted. And no i am not being rude at all (Bob).:rotfl:

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I know:p:rotfl:
Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:

Today is the date on which Little Boy had to be born – I was already in hospital, being induced; and he was on strike. Because of his strike we were a ‘failed induction’ and had caesarean section on the 20th. Yes, tomorrow is his birthday – he is so excited about getting into double figures.

Did the planning for next week – meal plan, shopping, the lot. Because we have quite a few meals in the freezer, I spent only £16 on food. Which is very good and much needed – this month has been a total electrical disaster. I have been updating regularly on this (new washing machine and new dishwasher) but the latest was that the bread machines stopped working. That is right – both of them (we had one very old and one 1 year old but cheap). So yesterday we got a new bread making machine as well – we have not bought bread for couple of years now so not the time to start now.

We got the Rolls Royce of bread making machines – a Panasonic. Let me tell you that the praise is not exaggerated. I have made two loafs – one simple white and one 100% wholemeal – and both are absolutely perfect. But since this diary is mainly about learning (when I don’t drift into other things this is) what did I learn?

Buying cheap stuff is not always a saving – so one can chose to do it but there has to be awareness that ultimately it may be more costly than paying for higher quality. Paying more doesn’t always mean quality though – none of our Bosch white goods were very good (all quite expensive).

We also had a wonderful day out of Manchester – we met up with NorthernLas; had a spot of lunch and a walk. It was lovely.

Would I get to the TV to watch a bit of a movie, I wonder?

Wishing you a happy birthday for little boy. It always cheers me up when you write about him. Double figures hey? You keep reminding him that you are 21 he will always remember his wonderful childhood. Hooray.
