Checking my bill online the other day, my tariff showed up as BT Basic. I have not been informed about this, and I'm not eligible for it!
I can only assume that BT will work their way through those of us on BT Basic and switch us over to a normal tariff when they find out we are not eligible. Anyone know if this is the case?

I thought you couldn't have broadband on a BT Light User tariff? No free lunch, and no free laptop

This surprises me - BT Basic is not provided unasked - you have to give BT the OK for the Social to disclose your benefits on a 'regular basis' so without this BT Basic doesn't get supplied. If you're unaware of this, you'll probably find it is a mistake as All Low Users were moved onto standard tariffs unless they met the criteria.0

Where does OP say broadband??? There is this old technology still around and it's dial up and works perfectly fine on a BT Light User line. Or the OP could be using the neighbours Wi-Fi connection or even using a 3G mobile broadband device.I thought you couldn't have broadband on a BT Light User tariff?
OP-Sit tight. It'll probably change back to a BT Weekend plan at some point.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Be careful though, as on BT Basic you are allowed something like £4 of calls a quarter, then get hit with quite high charges for any you make over that.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Thanks for your comments. HappyMJ, I'll try and sit tight for now, maybe they will forget I'm on the cheap tariff.

It surprised me too! I am pretty sure BT don't have my national insurance number to check records with (which I think is what they ask for with BT Basic?), but I think they do have limited access (like LA) to social security records as didn't they used to be part of the civil service?0 -

Yes they certainly did, in those days they were known as the GPO and drove green Morris 8 Series E vans with rubber wings, later replaced by Morris Minors (still green).cannyClaire wrote: »Thanks for your comments. In 1969 the GPO was abolished and became the Post Office Corporation, no longer part of the Civil Service but still Government owned.
Then of course in 1981 it became BT on privatisation.
I would not think after 40 years they have any automatic right to any records.0
