Present for future husband

Options
I'm getting married on the 27th August this year and would really like to buy my future hubby a pressie for him to open the night before, or the morning of the wedding. I believe that some people think this is tradition whereas others don't but I think it's a lovely idea.
What I'm after is any ideas please? I've thought of aftershave and cufflinks but was wondering if anyone had any slightly less traditional ideas. I've written a poem about our metting and life together so far and I'm thinking of framing that but would also like to get him something else.
Many thanks for any suggestions

  • Hi

I had exactly the same dilemma when me and hubbie got married in June!

I ended up buying him a painting. I wanted something that would last forever and always remind him of our wedding day! I wanted to get a little plaque engraved and stuck on the back with our wedding date etc. on it but it took me so long to decided what to buy him that i'd left it too late!

Another idea i'd had was to get his wedding ring engraved. I was gutted i couldn't get it done - once again i'd left it too late!

I have just had an idea that may save you money in about a years time.

I want to give my DH a paper present for our first wedding anniversary, so i had the idea of a framed newspaper front page from the day we got married. I've been looking at these this afternoon on the internet for research purposes, at £40 plus pandp. What a rip off.

If i had had this thought a year ago, i could have asked someone to buy me a copy of the paper on that day.

In terms of pressie before you get married, a poem, or card telling him what he means to you sounds really lovely. Or perhaps tell him what you thought of him the moment you met him, or the time when you realised that you loved him.

Perhaps a miniature bottle, and get him to open at a certain time and have a toast to you, and you do the same thing wherever you are.

Something to pamper himself with to make him look gorgeous for your big day.

All depends really on what sort of bloke he is to whether you think he would appreciate the gesture.

Wedding ring engraving, we had ours both engraved with our first initial, and then the date of our wedding, and we jokingly say now, so neither of us will forget the anniversary.

hope something i have said is useful and not just ramblings.

    Michelle, x

How about a sports/subercar for the morning of the wedding (depending on what time your getting married and your budget!)

i am my hubbys present he can hear me moaning on and giving him orders as his everlasting present!! it is really romantic to think of buying each other something as a keepsake but for me the cost of the wedding is enough you both get new clothes, rings, meal out and disco etc what more do you want!!! you will not forget the day my album is gathering dust but i always remember my wedding as a truly superb day as everything is selected by the two of you it feels like it is the biggest day of your life but then when i had my first baby that was an even better day than the wedding and it cost a lot less!! there are so many happy days ahead of you together that i think you'll soon forget about the token gift as the real gift is putting up with each other through the rest of your journey in life! good luck and enjoy everyday together!
  • Why dont you name a star after him ? There are many sites where you can do this and you can have it framed or choose to frame it yourself to save a bit of money.
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

Oooh pink_butterfly what a fab idea. Me and my OH aren't getting married for a while but now I have that painting idea to file away somewhere and bring out at the right time. My OH loves John Horsewell paintings and I've been thinking bout getting him one but for birthday / christmas. If I save it for our wedding though it will mean so much more.
    Fab - thanks! :j

as a bloke - i have always thought a small piece of jewellery is nice - chain or even more, a watch. it depends though - personally i would say a gold watch but it depends on (not being funny) but if he is 25 or 75 as age will matter in this - ie, if he is older then somehitng from his era etc.... it depends....

there is loads you can get him - get him a new "thing" for his collection if he has one? for me this is a lens lol

parker pen or a cross pen are 2 nice pens - nice writers -

all depends though on how much money you are willing to spend aswell as his age and if he has a collection :)

When I got married in Feb this year I left my Hubby a Box on the dining room table to open the night before the wedding. It had a bottle of his favourite beer and a nice pint glass - so he could have a drink to calm lastminute nerves, a card with a lovely poem about my hopes for our future together and a set of nice new clean underwear/sock for him to wear on the day itself.

Nothing expensive or flashy - but he thinks about it (albeit briefly) everytime he uses the glass and wears the underwear/socks.

    ;)
