Garden lighting. How are they wired? Are they daisy chainned with elec cable?

Hi all

I Want some garden lights installing around the perimmiter of my Garden. So, I thought that over the BH weekend I would dig a trench around the Edge of the Garden and install a Water pipe. Inside that pipe I'd run a cable. My question is: how do I run the wiring? The pipes will be buried under the soil so need to get it right first time. Are the lights daisy chained? (connected to each other).

Thanks all

I've only had on set of garden lights and they were low voltage ones with the supplied cable just chained from one to the next.

Outdoor lights must be installed using steel wire armoured cable, terminated with special glands, and buried a minimum depth below the ground. Above the cable should be concrete protective capping, and above that and near the surface should be 'buried cable below' marker tape.

The size of cable depends on the length, the load carried, and other factors, and really needs to be checked by calculation by an electrician working from tables in the Wiring Regulations.

Also, unless an electrician registered with a Part P self-certification scheme does the work, you are supposed to put an application in to the local council Building Control.

I suggest you get an electrician in to do all the wiring work, and just dig and fill the trench yourself.

    Owain is right

If you dont already know how the lights should be wired, then you shouldnt really be messing with Electricity.

I think the low-voltage ones are the way to go for the OP :-)
