PCN from UKCPS - Assurance needed!

I was given a PCN on the 28th of March at 2030hrs. I had apparntly parked in a private bay. This was abit of a surprise as there were no indications that I couldn't park in the bay I'd parked in. On closer inspection I saw a sign on a bay two below me that said 'Travel agent customer. No Parking'. A pub landlord then informed me that during the day, people woudl park in the bays when taking kids to school which prevented people visiting the travel agent from parking, so they brought in UKCPS to ake sure they bays were used by Travel agent patrons only. I had another look around and saw, hidden under a fire escape a sign that said I could receive a fine, be clamped or towed away. I then saw on another wall behind where I'd parked another sign, which was high up and not visible in the dark either. Ihave taken photographs. My friend had parked next to me and he got a ticket as well. £75 each. I haven't paid and don't intend. The landlord told me he had been given a ticket that got to £300 before UKCPS told him to forget it. I'm angry about this. Besides not paying and not writing until them until I get an invoice (I did get a letter today saying I now owed £126), is there any else that I could do? Maybe writing to an MP, Watchdog or Trading standards perhaps. Also looking for some assurance that I'm doing the right thing!!

  • It's not a pcn or a fine, just a speculative invoice from a bunch of scamsters. Do not contact them in any way and ignore all correspondence from UKCPS and their "debt collectors/solicitors". They will give up after a few threatening letters. No matter what they say, they will not go to court as they know they would lose.
Writing to your MP, Trading Standards etc will be a waste of a stamp, they will not be interested.

Just pay the ticket. Regardless of the codswallop spouted by the wannabe lawyers, private companies can charge for parking on private land. You chose to park there, now you have to pay the charge you have incurred for doing so.

    Ignore Eric's advice.

Of course they can charge for parking on private land. What they cannot do is to ask for an unfair penalty that bears no relation to the actual loss suffered by the landowner if you break their "rules".

This is what PPCs can't get their heads around - the difference between a fee for parking in a private car-park, and an unfair penalty demanded if you stay longer than the time you have paid for, or for other "infringements" of their made-up rules.

Once again Eric, what PPC do you work for?

To organlips - ignore the post above by PPC biased Parking Eric, he just wants your money. Also ignore the ticket and all the letters which follow. Show your friend this reply, he must not panic when the threatograms arrive!

Anyone who pays a PPC is just as uninformed and naive as someone who replies to a phishing email. It's all a scam and Parking Eric knows it, he's worried that word is spreading about these tickets not being lawful - which is why he keeps going on here.

The letters they will send you will mention Court and bailiffs but none of that will actually happen, honestly. Make sure your friend realises that a debt collector is not a bailiff, and that nothing will happen, no effect on your credit rating. Nothing.

Do not contact them at all, do not rise to the bait of those letters. They will just fizzle out. Read some threads on the whole sub-board to see how common this rip-off is:

Click on the first sticky thread 'what to expect' where Crabman has links to typical PPC letters. Please make sure your friend looks at these example preview letters so he can simply play 'snap' when the real versions arrive (rather than panic). It's nothing to worry about at all, check out those example letters again as and when you get each one - they will match because it's a standard letter-series.

Now enjoy your life and forget about these low-lifes!

I can charge you for making daft posts. And God knows if I could I'd be worth a fortune.

Doesn't mean my "charge" is valid or that I can make you pay it. See where this is going?

And members of the public can choose to ignore ;-)
  • It's been nearly two months since I received my last correspondence, which was to say I now owed £126. My friend who wrote to them has received two letters which he ahs responded to again saying they have breached 14 items of their code of conduct (one of which is that the fine shoudl relate to the amount of business the company who own the spaces lost - given that it was 2030hrs on a Sturday and the shop closed at 170hrs, that will be ZERO). He's now had another letter asking for £150!!!

Please tell your friend that if they contact them again, then please do not call it a "fine", it's an invoice. And really, it's not a good idea to keep contacting them. They just ignore these letters. They're not interested.

  • Well it's been 4 months since their last threat, which was if I don't pay £126 in 7 days they will take me to court. This letter said if I don't pay the original fine (£78) in next 7 days they will take me to court and I will get a CCJ and will have to pay £325 (which was £100 original fine - yes I know they got thsi wrong - and £225 court costs. I ignored it and 8 days letter got a letter saying that's it now to late and I can't pay so they're starting court proceedings and I'll have to pay at least £325. They then went onto say I could call them and make a payment!!! Anyway, I've ignored this as well and am waiting to have my date in front of judge & jury!
