help/advice on new laptop mainly processors

After a disaster with my old laptop during the week, i need to buy a new laptop ASAP.
My laptop at the moment is;
Toshiba Satellite A-100-033 and has a intel pentium dual core T2060 - 1.6Ghz.
basicially there now seems to be a HUGE amount of different processors and im confused about what is best (although price comes into the choice too) am i right in presuming that the higher the amount of Ghz the better or does something else matter more?
can someone please advise me about which current processors are the best ones to look for?
I know exactly what else i need and dont need, so its just this part thats confusing me.
