dangerous ditch in garden

Or just do the sensible thing and fill it in. If you dont want to pay much to do it there are plenty of people on freecycle that are giving away free used bricks and paving slabs so just break them up to fill the ditch with rubble and then put a layer of slabs over the top... have a few spare to allow for settlementAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

theres will be a problem though with drainage if we fill it in whic is why we aent willing fo fear of said council having money off us for something we shoudltn have done.
scuse typing im a bit !!!!!!.There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
If the ditch was filled with rubble then there usually wont be a problem with drainage as it will drain way through the rubble.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

To be honest I really don't see why the OP is expected to cover a dangerous ditch in their garden at their own expense. Surely if the surveyor admits that the ditch is dangerous then in my mind the council must take steps to make the area safe, and the surveyors suggestion of simply covering the area with wood to me poses even more potential problems bearing in mind that in certain weather it will become slippy and eventually it will rot! I certainly wouldn't let them off the hook on this, particularly after their surveyor has declared it dangerous.
On re-reading your post the surveyor states that since this at the back of the property they are unwilling to do do anything about it, this seems to suggest that had it been at the front of the property they would indeed have repaired it..............................sorry just can't see any logic there!!Other than the fact that it may have posed a potential hazard to Posties, Delivery couriers etc if it were at the front................if this is indeed their reasoning then I would say that they are leaving themselves wide open for a potential future claim as they are knowingly leaving it in a "dangerous" state!

heres a couple of pics of it. round the otherside where the boxes are is a large space which is also dangerous and thats where the problem with drainage would be.
please excuse the state of the garden, we need to go to the dump again. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
hmm... carling drinkers (and throw them out the window types) hu?
Looks like you already have a rail along the leading edge - would take much to simply put a 2nd cross bar from the corner post to the wall (or put 2 rails in if those are just upright posts and not rails in the pictureAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I would be more worried about your child getting hold of those dangerous tools and old paint brushes left lying around rather than the ditch
Saying that it dosent look like a ditch to me just looks like the edge of the garden is raised and there is some small edging to keep it in place.0 -
The council/mp/councillor wont bother to do anything about it. I own the house next door to my parents council property and the fence between the gardens is b*lloxed but they won't do anything about it, (we have 4 dogs between us), i even complained as i am trying to sell my house but they wont budge. We had to sort it ourselves.Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0

I would fill it with gravel or compost, or even bark.Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0

mr mobs currently reseeding the lawn and sorting out the borders hence the tools.
the rail has no railings just the posts. previous occupant removed them.
all advice and suggestions have been gratefully received! There's someone in my head, but it's not me0
