Electric shower making boiling noises

Hi,
my electric shower has been making funny noises for 2 days. It is one of those pull cord ones and when I press the 'stop' button', it starts making a sound as if the water is boiling (like a kettle) and then the 'overheat' button switches on. As soon as I pull the cord to switch the whole thing off, this stops. Any ideas of whether this is fixable or are we going to need a new shower? If we need a new shower will we be able to use the same pipe work that there is at the moment?

Also, should we always pull the cord at the end of a shower or can we leave it on all the time?

Thanks for your help.

Sounds as if the water flow is being cut before the heater is switching off.
Personally I always switch the shower off at the mains when its not in use.
I had my Mira repaired a few weeks ago, they can supply parts for their old model showers.
You must get a professional to look at it for you. Do not attempt any repair yourself.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • have to agree here with penrhyn, howevere some problems like this can ve caused by scale in the small heating tank of the shower which you could try and descale by removing the supply pipe work with the stop !!!! off and pouring some descaler in.
    worth a try.
