Warning on Childsplaymodels

If you're thinking of signing up your offspring to a model agency beware of Childsplaymodels, based in Beckenham.

You're charged £250 for a set of photos with a promise they will be included in their 'catalogue' which is sent to numerous companies. There is no promoting your child and one year later we have heard absolutely nothing.

Beware of this con.

You shouldnt have to pay for pictures if they want your child as a model. One of the most reputable agencies is Norrie Carr

Thanks for the up. I'll have a look.

I did do some research before joining Childsplaymodels and found no detrimental reviews, and some reviews on child modelling suggested you do have to pay for kids, but not to do so for adults.

I thought that this type of agency had much stricter controls on when and what they can charge for? Or has HM Government failed us once again (which would be no surprise to me)?

A reputable agency will never charge a joining fee. I'm in a amateur drama group and I know a few people who have been stung by casting/modelling agencies that charge hefty 'registration' fees and then you never hear from them again let alone get any work from them! Some even charge hundreds of pounds to photograph you for their portfolio/website.

Norrie Carr charges £135 for over 2s ( I know because they accepted my son last year) and I think in the region of £65 for babies.
I did investigate a few months ago and I was told by the competent bodies that child agencies CAN charge you a fee for representation ( photos, inclusion in the look book etc). They are not doing anything illegal.
Agencies that don't charge are MOT,BMA, Elliot BRown,DK
Bruce and Brown takes £40 off your first earnings and Kid London £25 but if you want to get on their Look Book ( and it is advisable because the kids on it get put forward for jobs before the ones who are not in it) you have to pay Kids London £170 and I guess it's a similar amount to Bruce and BRown.
Cheeky Monkey Models dont charge but I would NOT recommend them.
Urban Angels charge £50 a year and you get 2 pictures
Scallywags/Truly Scumptious charge in the region of £170 but you have to pay for pictures on top ( I guess another £70-£80 )
Allsort £40 + £150 taken from first earnings
there are more agencies but I'm not going to write all of them down.

As you can see apart from a small number, they all charge a joining fee

I'm sorry your grandson didn't get any castings/jobs but no agency can assure you you'll get them. they can try hard but it's down to the client.
It's just a case of what face fits the brief!
