Block Buildings Insurance Help!

  • I would just like to warn you that often the cover for block building policies does not cover the inside of your home.
By this I mean that if for example you damaged your worktop in the kitchen, you would need buildings insurance to claim but things like this wouldn't normally be covered under the block policy so you would then need to pay for this yourself.

Which Insurer under a block policy excludes cover for the inside of your home and would not pay for a work top in your kitchen then Mrs Marshall?
  • I deal with normal home policies and I've come across several customer's who've not been able to claim through their block cover for their kitchens and have come to us to try and claim off their contents as they've been referred. Don't know the specific companies but its always worth checking as it does happen. It could be the accidental damage aspect that they're not covering but it can be expensive for those who aren't covered when they think they are.

It would be very unusual for it to not be covered by a normal property owners policy.

They are probably trying to claim off your policy as block policies typically have an excess of £250 to £350 (Some only have £150) or as you mentioned some do not include Accidental Damage Cover (The vast majority do though).

The managing agent or person in charge of the residents association often try and tell people its not covered to keep the claim off the Insurance.
  • My contents insurance is up for renewal this month. I'll check and see what coverage is regarding internal fixtures / fittings.

    Thanks for the information.
