Why not see if you can get a tax rebate. Here's a link to a calculator:
http://www.1stcontact.co.uk/live/index.php?Item_ID=4615
Use the calculator to give you an indication as to whether you are entitled to a tax rebate. The calculator will even give you a breakdown of how it was calculated, if you're interested in seeing that.
If it's a significant amount, it would be worthwhile filling in Form P50, under "you may also want":
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/individuals/iwtclaim-a-tax-or-ni-repayment.shtml
and sending it off to Inland Revenue. I'm not an accountant or anything, but I did try this a couple of years ago (also desperate for funds) and got more than a few hundred pounds back. It was really worth doing. Besides, you have nothing to lose.
Good luck:j0 -
What a Great Idea!
Any chanced of Money saver starting a Leader board?!
Doesn't have to be a Grand prize, but it would certainly set me up for the challenge!
Knowing the innovative ways people have made Debt free progress would also be useful!
What do you say Martin?0 -
When you go shopping use cash, not credit cards. it encourages you to spend less, then, when you come home from shopping put any change that is coins in a jar. This works - I put all my change in a jar & have just changed £77!0

Just a quick update, have made £14.00 on ebay from selling some books and have just signed up to yougov.co.uk and they've given me £1 just for joining, so all in all £15.00 made today!
OHs current total still stands at a puny £2995 (he is currently muttering something about the tortoise and the hare as I write this!)0 -
Well done, what an inspiring idea. I think it's great for competitive people, and we all have a little bit in us!!! Keep going and don't stop for a rest else you'll be the hare!!!
Good luck, keeping fingers crossed for you!!

Just a quick update. As you can see below my other half is now snapping at my heals!!
I'm going to load some more stuff on to ebay and hope that it sells. I've signed onto yougov and pure, so I'm busy filling in questionnaires as much as I can.
I've looked into tax rebates with no joy, so if anyone has any other ideas I'd love to hear them!0 -
Can you tell us what he is doing to reduce his debt??

Hi Spamalot
Although my other half is debt free, so can't compete with him, I've thought about doing some kind of little challenge to motivate myself along. So if your other half drops out, I could take up the challenge with you!

Murtle, so far he has cut back on his monthly spending money allowance so he can put more into debt repayment and he has sold one his bikes. He has also looked into getting a second job in the evenings for 1 day a week, so I really need to get cracking on getting some more money coming in if I'm going to stay ahead of the game.
Thanks Miffi, if he crumbles under the pressure I'll let you know!0
