hi looking some advice my mum has been trying to reclaim her bank charges going on the hardship route.she has had just under £3000 in charges in the last couple of years and the bank has contacted her an offered just over £400 and they want her cheque book handed in and all her direct debits cancelled and to put her on a basic account.it all seems very unfair, does anyone have any advice, should she accept their offer?

How much will £400.00 mean to her?
Will the amount clear her arrears with creditors?
Is the majority of her charges for unpaid cheques?0 -
no it would only be a drop in the ocean.most of her charges are for her over draft in the last 3months she has had about £280 in charges so as so as her money is paid into the bank(mum is disabled and is on DLA)they put load of charges on take all then she over her limit again and so on the next month its a vicious circle0

Are they offering any freeze in the charges for a period of 3 months?
What is the main cause of the Financial hardship since charges would not spiral without a drop in income available to pay the charges?0 -
no offers from them they are being very cold about it and yes she did have drop in income plus they changed her from income support to esa and left her with no money for wks while it was all getting sorted and suprise they now say they shouldnt have changed her in the first place and want to change her back0

Then those are your two points of reference ie from the time when she had no money onwards. Did the bank do anything to help at the time?
Did she approach them and what was their response?0 -
