Economy 7 meters

Anybody help me!!!
My old dad stays in a one room , toilet , kitchen home.
Has two electric bills for the same period 126 days totalling 400 pounds
I discovered there is two digital meters.
One showing two sets of figures on a two rate meter.
the other shows one set of figures.
The meters are using 55 UNITS a day.
Seems very high considering the size of the property and taking into cponsideration I only use an average of 16 units a day for my large house.
Iam looking to find out if anybody has heard of two meters in the one property.

Yes it's possible to have 2 meters.
Usually this is because the customer has a version of E10 or similar.
I used to live in a property that had 2 meters that had E7, but that was because it was originally 2 properties knocked into one and the landlord wanted to have the 2 separate supplies incase he wanted to separate the properties again.
If you have 2 meters and are on E7, then it means there are a total of 4 registries. Is that what you mean? E7 obviosuly needs 2 registries as it is a dual rate tariff.
Edit: how can your dad be using 55 Kwh per day in a 3 room dwelling? Is he living with a 2kW heater on 24/7? Are you sure both meters serve his dwelling and only his dwelling?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Thanks for your quick response, the property only has two storage heaters and one has been off at least six months.
I checked with his disabled neighbour who moved in June 09 as she has two meters as well she told me she got a bill for 800 for about 7 months.
the property was refurbished before my dad moved there in April 09 and his home was the contractors office, I suspect his home is connect to the exteral building lighting0 -
Yep, it's possible to have a two meter system, but 55 KWh per day sounds very dodgy for a property that size. Two meter systems will be billed as a single bill, getting one bill per meter shouldnt happen. Might be an idea to get someone out to have a look at it.
It could well be that the single rate meter was installed as a check meter and has not been removed....a change of suppliers, a bit of confusion, and voila, two meters recording the same usage. I have seen it happen before (only once).
Check the cable on the RH terminal of the single rate meter, if it connects to the LH terminal of the two-rate meter then it's a check meter and they are connected in series.
If it's for the external lighting it should be billed as the landlords supply, not your dads.0 -

Lighting is unlikely to account for a bill of that magnitude, unless there are a lot of high wattage lamps? What is the KW rating of the storage heater he does use? Has the immersion been accidentally been left on 24/7? Have you tried turning off the supply at the circuit breaker and seeing if the meter still moves?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Thanks Fire fox
I have done all the obvious things, both meters are working, storage heater is 2.75kw heater.
Checked the timer and the immersion heater is coming on at 5am until 7am.0 -
Check the bill, the reads for the meters should correspond with the serial numbers (they should be on there). Also check that the meters are being charged at a high and a low rate.
The tariff type should also be on the bill, from the sounds of it your dad should be on a Comfort Plus/Total Control/Heatwise type tariff. I have seen it when two meters have been classed as single rate and billed as sutch (particulary Total Control).0 -
You may need to contact the supplier to get them to recognise the grouped meters if they aren't already - best to contact them, with your father present to verify Data Protection, and ask them to explain the bill to you.0
