HELP - TFT Screen Flashing !!!

Help!

For the past two weeks, when I start up my PC, my TFT screen has been flashing. You see the normal desktop, icons etc for a millisecond, before the screen flashes back to black, then within 2 seconds, you see desktop again, then it flashes. Very strange. I have now unplugged this screen and plugged in my kids TFT screen which was fine for a day or so, now this screen is doing EXACTLY the same thing! So, I removed this screen and now have my work monitor (not flat screen) plugged into the tower and so far, for the last few days it has been fine.

Does anyone have a clue what has been going on? I've tried plugging the TFT into my tower unit at work but it does the same thing. The problem seemed to be intermittent at the start, sometimes it was okay, sometimes it wasn't. The only thing I have been doing differently is basically leaving the tower unit on during the day but pushing the off switch on the monitor so at least the screen was switched off during the day. My O/H says this is probably the cause but if you weren't supposed to use the button - then WHY IS IT THERE! He is also completely flumoxed and works in I.T. so it has infuriated him.

Any clues as to what I/we may have done wrong please?

Many thanks in anticipation.......

It could be the VGA cable. When you tried the monitor in the other PC did you use the same cable ? Assuming that the monitor doesn't have a hard-wired vga cable. If it does have a hard wired cable then it definitely looks like a fault with the monitor itself.

Reset your monitor to factory settings. Download a new driver for your graphics card and set the resolution to 800 x 600. Try again. Same symptoms? Try a different graphics card. Can be a faulty card, or a damaged cable as suggested in the other post. These symptoms could also be related to an unsupported resolution. Running a monitor outside its supported resoution can cause permanent damage.

I have seen a case like yours with a CRT monitor and the unit that switches the screen on and off was malfunctioning. Unfortunately it would have cost more to replace this part than buy a new screen. I am hoping that is not your case.

Heat can cause various symptoms to arise. What are the variances of symptom from a cold start to say an hour on?

Why no mention of a CRT in the original problem, it says TFT in the first line of the post!

Actually the title of the post is "HELP - TFT Screen Flashing !!!" - That is what my suggestion is for. Just becuase I have seen these symptoms in a CRT does not mean they cannot happen on an LCD. Adding to that, it appears you have no idea what a monitor is and have trouble understanding the written English language? Sorry to be rude, but your reply is irritating. Do you have anything contructive to add? :D

Many thanks for your replies. I actually managed to get one of the TFT screens working last night by plugging it into a different tower unit. It did flash but I managed between flashes to open up control panel, change the settings back to 800 x 600, was quite tricky to move the cursor to the correct place whilst it was flashing but did it in the end! Anyway, initially it just kept flashing but after a minute or so it stopped! Very strange.......... Then tried the same method with the other screen but it doesn't seem to flash anymore, its just black, so I can't restore the settings to 800 x 600. Any ideas?

The normal setting for most TFT screens is 1280 x 1024 which is what is called the native resolution and the setting that it is designed to work best at. 800 x 600 is a screen resolution used by older CRT monitors and you should really set the display properties to the native resolution of your TFT screen.

This happens all the time now to mine. I just turn the monitor off and then on again and it's OK. No doubt some techie will tell me that's a hanging offence, but hey, it works for me!!
