Does the open university have a rival

Hello

I studied the beginings of an MBA around 3 yrs back with the Open University - funded by employer

I would like o pick up again and finish - but need to self finance. The cost of 30 point courses which I must do 2 of, is circa £2.6k each, and then finally a compulsory course which is nearly £3k. Thats 9k of money and I am in serious debt, but also feel i need to push on to underpin my future career chances

are there any rivals to the Open University I could consider, and would they give credit for my acheivements to date?

Thanks

A lot of places do distant learning but you need to be wary about who you go with. I have a friend who's doing an econimics degree through the London School of Economics (LSE) which may be worth you looking into
  • THANKS, Spent the evening online looking - there are 000's to choose from. I am thinking perhaps a uni near me which offered some f2f may be an option

i am near coventry, leicester, so will continue looking and also check out LSE...

Really cant afford £8k + so worht investigating

you could look here too (Even though LSE is a part of UoL)

  • thanks for all your help

I have found several alternatives BUT they charge for the entire MBA....circa £6k, which is cheaper than OU but

    - is far too much money for me to find
    - increases the risk...i.e if after 2 months I decide i want to drop out, instead of losing £1200 I now lose £6k

    OU it is.....

    thanks all

All alternatives will charge for a full MBA on their websites but unless you have done already it may be worth contacting them and asking if you;d be able to transfer your credits from the OU and thus reduce the cost.
    Good luck

I agree, though I am rather concerned that this is not common sense to someone studying at MBA level!
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Thanks Mrs Manda, with it being BH weekend, I have sent a couple of emails to institutions of interest, however even with potential credit, pro - rataing payments would suggest cost would be similar to OU or greater. Also, I would have some concern around joining some of the part time MBA which appear to be highly catered towards team based activity mid year even though obviously would want to benefit from the credit I have received so far. I will await / chase replies Tues before making a final choice though

dmg - dont be too concerned, I have a proven track record which demonstrates my intellectual capability to be successful at post graduate level

also check how well regarded the MBA is at that uni - they really are a classic example of a qualification where some are seen much more positively than others by employers.
