How Can I Unlink Chapter Headers In Word?

I am putting together a book of my short stories in Word, and am having trouble unlinking the header from the previous chapter. I want each new story to have its own title in the header, on the odd page, but each time I go into the Word View Headers section and untick "Same as previous section," I still get the same header repeated and overlapping even the header of the previous chapter!

As many users of Word will attest, this is a very frustrating problem! I am having no trouble with the book's title, as that header stays the same on all the even pages. No, it's just this accursed heading for each new story chapter that is giving me much grief.

I know there are macros for this, but I am no expert on those, and just want a simple solution to as I can unlink the chapter heading from that in the previous section.

So can somebody tell me how to do this?

I don't use Word as OpenOffice works well for my needs but this should help? :)

I think this is what you mean, and this is how I would do it...

Set up a header on the first chapter. Then in page setup in the layout tab choose different headers and footers for odd and even pages.

Then at the end of the story, instead of a page break, create a section break and in the header and footer controls click off the 'same as previous'

You can then put in a new header for the new story.

    Does that make sense?
It's easier to get forgiveness than to ask permission ;)
