Hello fellow moneysavingexperts :T ,
Just wondering if any of you moneysavingexperts have recently returned from Tunisia and would enlighten me on if I should exchange our hard earned cash here(at the post office maybe?) or if we're more likey to get a better exchange over in Tunisia?!?
We're flying into Monastir airport on the 6th, so any feedback would be greatly apprechated!

You cant buy Dinars in the UK its a closed currency. You can get them from airport, your hotel or bank once you get to Tunisia.(If your getting a taxi transfer from airport you will need to exchange some money there)
We have been there 3 times now and always take sterling with us(thats just our personal preference though)
Take a look on the HT website(Tunisia forum)

Like the OP said, its closed currency so you can only change it in the country but the exchange rate is set so you wont lose out. A word of warning though, take cash or travellers cheques and only change what you need - the airport is the only place you can change it back there, you cant take the currency out of the country. We only changed over a little and spent it all by the time we got to the airport but people we sat by on the plane changed back the equivalent of a hundred pounds sterling but only got just under 40pounds for it! Enjoy your holiday!0

Was there last week ... on arrival my taxi driver said he preferred Sterling anyway ( I had changed a little at airport ) airport rate on arrival was 2.39 ... at hotel 2.42 ... still awaiting what my VISA card rate ( NWide) will be
On com,ing back to airport I spent the remainer of my money landside ( don't think you are supposed to take to depature lounge... they accept Euro's/ £/ cards anyway) ..I have heard others say at airport you get little back .although I did notice rate on board to sell back said 2.48... so unless they hit with other charges , it did not seem unfairAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
Found that my visa debit card and cashpoint machines were the best option. There were numerous machines in El Kantoui (or whatever it was called) and was very pleasantly suprised at how little I did spend with a very favourable exchange rate.0

Its been asked soo, soo many times, where is the best place to get holiday money?
I know there are articles about holiday money, etc, however I thought I would write a little list of my top choices:
1. Nationwide Debit Card for ATM withdrawals from destination country / Nationwide Credit Card or the Audi credit card for purchases in destination country (but watch out for Dynamic Currency Conversion).
2. Any other debit card for ATM withdrawals from destination country / any other credit card for purchases in destination country (but for both CHECK T&C's to see exact charges).
3. Thomas Exchange Global in central London.
4. Travelex online (remember Travelex will price match any other exchange service, i.e. the one above)
5. Marks and Spencer
6. Thomson Travel (they seem to use Amex as their travel money provider).
7. Co-op Travel (they use Curreny Express / Exchange and offer free delivery for orders over £300).
8. Online FX (their rates probably look higher than the others, but do watch, as they charge £4.95 for delivering the currency).
9. Post Office
With 3 - 9, if you are paying with debit / credit card check your T&C's as many providers charge for the priviledge of using money exchange services."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
